Of course I’m many things but I’m not a copyright lawyer, a screenwriter or novelist writer.
I’m an Entrepreneur, direct response copywriter, investor, father, surfer, guitar player, marketer and more bur at the end of the day my business persona if you like is being a “salesman.”
Now, whether you like to admit it or not, we’re all in sales of some kind.
These days that “salesman in print filters” spills across into many different online and offline direct response copywriting and marketing services across lot’s of different media.
So below are some of the different types of writers available to you. This will help you decide which writer or writing service
is best for you and your campaign or purpose.
Please note the writing services below are in no particular order of importance.
A journalist researches, investigates collects facts and presents the information as an impartial news story or they’re supposed to. (Pardon my sarcasm) That journalism could be in radio, magazine, television, and newspapers or on the Internet.
Journalists are not novelists, direct response copywriters or ad agency executives. They provide the service of researching the facts on a specific topic or event and presenting those facts in an unbiased and objective approach or are supposed to.
Content writing is gaining mega popularity at the moment however it is also one of the hardest writing services to distinguish. What I mean by that is some content writers are a combination of a journalist, researcher, editor, direct response copywriter, SEO expert, and even graphic designer.
More and more content writers are working with smaller sized businesses to generate social influence and exposure these days simply because they write content for a diversity of sources. They can write and design material such as blog posts, short articles, press releases, website content and even biographies.
Direct Response Copywriters:
Write emotionally driven or targeted headlines, sales copy, offers and include calls to action telling people what they need to do next. We also track and measure everything we use in the marketing we use. Of course, our goal is to tap into people’s emotional needs or disturbances and generate qualified leads and sales for our clients.
In the words of the great Dan Kennedy Direct response copywriter and marketing is all about “Right message, Right Market, Right Media.” Direct response copywriting and marketing is far more targeted, effective, measurable and profitable than trying to send a message to everyone.
You would use a direct response copywriter for any number of writing projects and not all supply the services I’ve listed below.
A direct response copywriter will write marketing to help you generate new and repeat sales and write sales copy for email auto responder series, websites, landing pages, email marketing campaigns, radio, video and television scripts, direct response sales letter and marketing packages, e-newsletters, articles, lead generation print ads and more.
Footnote – Niche direct response copywriters: Like all professions, there are niche direct response copywriters as well. Copywriters who only write for the health supplement industry for example or the travel industry and so on.
Why is it a called direct response copywriting and marketing? Because unlike flashy ad agency ads they are created so people take direct and immediate action.
A novelist writes work of fiction for a living. This type of writer that many people desire to become. They write novels, which are sold and serve as a means of income for them. Many writers who desire to be a novelist will likely need to compliment their writing income with other various types of writing job.
These are usually Professors, Doctors and Solicitors that write research findings, case studies and so on for trade and industry magazines, university magazines as well as scientific and medical journals. Unlike other types of writers, academic writers in most cases do not write for money. It’s more of a case of positioning themselves, as the go to authority or expert in their field, which either way you look at it, is still a form of marketing. Articles published by these writers can be the result of years of research in a specific field.
These non-fictions writers are all experts on in their field or topic and mostly write for many magazines. They can be freelancers or staff writers.
Business writers write for commercial business, magazines and newspapers. Unlike any other types of article writing, it demands for strict language skills and relevant business ideas; the readers of such articles professionals and the writers must be in the same level their readers or better than them. Freelancers and staff writers can also engage in business writing but not amateurs.
Ad agency Corporate Copywriters:
Corporate Copywriters are similar to direct response copywriters in that they write advertising content. That is, they write T/V, scripts, radio ads and other online and offline marketing for various businesses, companies, and organisations just as some direct response copywriters do. The main objective of a copywriter is to catch the interest of their prospects and customers to generate a lead, create a sale or build brand awareness and these guys are usually in an agency and enter to win awards.
The main differences I see between a corporate copywriter and direct response copywriters is corporate copywriters use generic language such as “We have been a leader in the field of financial strategies and positive outcomes for over 30 years and are able to maximise your investment while minimising risk.”
Nothing wrong with that however a direct response copywriter takes on this could be something such as
“If you’re not keen on risk or losing your money, has a 30 year proven track record in delivering positive outcomes for people with portfolios of $100,000 and under.
It says the same thing, just stated a different way to appeal to a persons needs, wants and emotions.
People want to reduce risk and I do not know anyone who likes loosing money so we’re appealing to their disturbances, fears or what they are thinking about on their head while their thinking about investing. Of course the direct response copywriting example above also tells you whom it is for (people with portfolios of $100,000 and under), which goes a long way to attracting and qualifying the right type of prospects rather than trying to appeal and attract everyone.
These are a small subgroup of business writers. Their customers are people who are in search of a job or workers in search of a new job. There are resume writing companies independent resume writers. Their aim is to present information collected from their customers in a more professional way so that person gets the job they’re after.
Other types of writers include ghost writers, reviewers, screen writers, song writers, speech writers, staff writers, storywriters, technical writers, translators, non-fiction book writers, online writers, play writers, poetry writers, columnists, erotica writers and so on. These various writers are all differentiated by their writing skills.
Writers such as novel writers and academics may write for the purpose of satisfaction derived from it, while others may write for payment purpose.
Many, copywriters and marketers and bloggers write articles and other marketing to rank higher in various search engines since search engines often crawl websites and blogs for fresh and relevant content. This is to generate more traffic to their blog or website, pay per click ad and so on which can eventually leads to high quality leads and return on investment for their product or advertising
The problem for most people with writing is, how to get started, what to write, how to write an offer and how to finish.
